Talk:Republican Party (United States)

Fascism project
Yes, it seems clear that the Republican Party (United States) fits the definition of fascism. Make a note of it. Dschor 12:56, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

The GOP uses nationalism to manufacture consent for policies of a fascist nature. The 'P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act' is a prime example of using nationalism and patriotism as a front for a fascist agenda. Under the GOP, it is clear that government is the problem, and that the solution is to remove the GOP from government. Federal bureaucrats are routinely ignored and ridiculed by the GOP because they insist on accuracy and honesty, both of which Republicans consider to be quaint at best, and terrorist at worst. See the bureaucrats on tax policy, war policy, intelligence, poverty, etc.; the GOP ignores accuracy and honesty because their policies are not compatible with the truth. Loyalty to a single leader, although stipulated as a condition for fascism, is rather antiquated in a time of term limits. The GOP is loyal to fascism, whatever leader espouses it at the moment (Reagan, Bush I, Bush II, etc), and is loyal to each successive figurehead in turn. Harriet Miers' nomination was purely a political stunt, in order to make the confirmation of a truly fascist judge more possible (see Alito). Americans certainly have seen party-sponsored violence, though increasingly the operations of censorship and suppression of dissent have become official functions of the government itself. Assassination has been used less frequently as election fraud has made such messy tasks obsolete. The GOP claims to be in favor of limited government, but in reality the policies of the party increasingly focus on making the government larger and more robust, with enhanced police powers, and extensive regulation of the private lives of citizens. The only regulations they hope to remove are those that involve progressive taxation and environmental protection. The GOP is unquestionably the party of corporations - all the major figures in this administration have extensive business connections, and the Supreme Court nominees have been corporatists. The GOP has been implementing totalitarianism here and abroad, with secret prisons, fraudulent elections, and an illegal war against "them". There is every reason to believe that the GOP is not only fascist, but is gaining the power to remold the United States into a permanently fascist state. These developments deserve to be noted, not suppressed. --Dschor 21:26, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Fascism (United States)

Revision as of 05:48, 5 December 2005
Fascism in the United States is a controversial topic, and the term has often been used as a slur, rather than an accurate label of political affiliation. Fascism generally attracts political support from big business, landowners, and patriotic, traditionalist, conservative, far-right, populist and reactionary individuals and groups. Classical fascism has also inspired contemporary neo-fascist organizations (Fascism). The American Heritage Dictionary describes it as "A system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism" (AHD, 1983). Fascism in practice has expressed itself in both political and economic practices, and academics have examined these elements both together and in isolation. Hannah Arendt, whose focus is largely political, argues that regimes commonly thought of as fascist, such as Nazism, belong to a larger category of totalitarianisms, including communist dictatorships, such as that of Joseph Stalin (Arendt, 1973). Thayer Watkins, a professor of Economics from San Jose State University, identifies fascism as aligned with corporatism, a form of economic oppression that he argues includes most of the world's governments (Watkins, 2005). Watkins considers Mussolini's Fascist regime to be one example of the corporatist states that emerged during the Great Depression, including such diverse political systems as that of Spain, Argentina and the United States. Today, very few groups proclaim themselves fascist, and the term is often used to describe individuals or political groups who are perceived to behave in an authoritarian or totalitarian manner; by silencing opposition, judging personal behavior, promoting racism, or otherwise attempting to concentrate power and create hate towards the "enemies of the state". Fascism exploits the anxiety and fear of the populace to transform republican countries into totalitarian states. While failing to outline a coherent program, fascism evolved into a new political and economic system that combined corporatism, totalitarianism, nationalism, and anti-Communism in a state designed to bind all classes together under a capitalist system. Just as in Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, in the United states, a movement has come to power that seeks to create national unity through the repression of national enemies and the incorporation of all classes and both genders into a permanently mobilized nation. This movement is known as the GOP. The Republican Party, after seizing power in the 2000 election through the questionable actions of a right-wing Supreme Court, acted with haste to enact the agenda of the Project for the New American Century. Following the events of September 11th, 2001, conditions in the United States were ideal for such a project, and radical reforms of the American goverment have followed, including the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act, the complete reversal of progress on a balanced budget, massive military expenditures, and withdrawal from the Kyoto Protocol. The primary means of mobilizing nascent fascist forces has been a focus on "terrorists". The War on Terrorism has provided the political conditions needed to abandon the constitution, and revoke even the most basic human rights guaranteed by United States law and international treaties. At the same time, corporate influence and collusion with the government at the highest levels has expanded to include no-bid contracts for billions of dollars, and has allowed corporations to write the legislation that is intended to regulate them. The GOP has combined corporatism, totalitarianism, nationalism, and anti-Terrorism (nee anti-Communism) in a state designed to bind all classes together under a capitalist system. This is commonly known as Fascism. Although this system was instituted under ideal political circumstances, those circumstances are no longer in place, and popular support for the regime is crumbling. The 2004 election was a victory for the GOP, that even the GAO was unable to defend from accusations of rampant vote fraud and illegal activity. A right-wing conspiracy has infiltrated the GOP and seized power, overturning the oldest Republic on the planet, and replacing it with a puppet fascist state, run by and for the wealthiest corporations and individuals, with liberty and justice for none. Current projects include the permanent disfigurement of the Supreme Court, endless war, and the suppression of dissent.

Users may be blocked for disruption
5.1) It is current Wikipedia policy and practise to block editors who engage in especially egregious disruption, including trolling and other provocative behavior clearly intended to cause a disturbance. Unfortunately, the intention to cause a disturbance is assumed, and good faith is thrown out the window. --Dschor 13:31, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
General discussion
This RfAr was entered into without any attempt at dispute resolution. This is a clear violation of the spirit of wikipedia, and of policy on arbitration. I concur with James S. - this RfAr should be closed without further action and we can all get back to editing the encyclopedia. --Dschor 13:35, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Template:User pedo
I see everyone is having a good time in my honor. Good to see you again, Doc. I understand that there is some concern that I created this template in an effort to make a point. This appears to be a failure to assume good faith. The template was created for my personal use, and was not added to any other pages. I did not recreate a deleted template, and intentionally crafted the template to not be offensive or disruptive. Unfortunately, I have been drawn into a tar pit here, and it seems unlikely that a fair hearing is possible given the prejudice voiced above. I have been blocked before, but I consider myself to have been unfairly targeted due to my unpopular opinions and outspoken nature. I have to say, I am beginning to think that Doc is on a personal crusade against me, based on his comments above, and his previous interactions with me. I hope that this is not the case. --Dschor 13:40, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
Dschor's recreation of the Pedophilia template
10) The day following the incident, Dschor created Template:User pedo, an extremely similar version of the original pedophile userbox (The original having said "This user identifies as a pedophile." whereas Dschor's version said "This user is interested in pedophilia.")
Apparently expressing interest in certain content within wikipedia is verboten.
Dschor
6) Although Dschor maintains that his recreation of an almost-verbatim copy of the pedophile userbox was done in good faith, his apparently self-contradictory justification ("I am not an administrator, and therefore was unable to view the deleted templates ... [I] made my template as a good faith effort to craft a more neutral pedophilia template" [5]) is unconvincing, particularly in light of his behavior prior to and during the case [6]. Dschor is banned from Wikipedia for 2 months. Additionally, he is placed on Wikipedia:Probation. After he finishes serving out his ban, administrators may ban him from any page he disrupts, and/or ban him from Wikipedia for up to a week for each provocative edit he makes.
Statement by User:Dschor
I have been added to this case after being blocked for creating Template:User pedo, and adding the template to my page. As stated above, the content of the template was a userbox with the text "This user is interested in pedophilia." I am not sure how similar or different this is from the other templates cited above, however I am certain that it is NPOV, and merely describes one of many interests that I have as a wikipedian. There are numerous articles on wikipedia that are concerned with the topic, and I felt it appropriate to make known my interest in this area, in case I could help in editing related articles. I am not an administrator, and therefore was unable to view the deleted templates, or to engage in any wheel warring. I simply created a template to describe my interest, and placed it on my user page. Shortly thereafter, and without any warning or discussion, I was blocked. The reason given was violation of WP:POINT. After reading the above narrative, I can see how such a mistake was made. I have been unblocked now, of course, and my only request is that everyone assume good faith on my part. I am not certain why I was added to this page, or what this request for arbitration is intended to accomplish. I also am unsure about the justification for deleting the template that I created, and welcome any and all comments that might clarify the reasoning used to support such an action. I believe that the template I created was appropriate and legitimate, and it was created with absolutely no intention of making any point other than my own personal interest in the subject of pedophilia. I feel that I have been added to this RfAr in the interests of completeness, and that my part in the entire matter is rather tangential - I also feel that it would be more productive to engage me in dialogue rather than to block me and place me in the middle of an RfAr that has little to do with me. --Dschor 13:11, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
(I was not aware that Jimbo himself was responsible for the deletion, and made my template as a good faith effort to craft a more neutral pedophilia template. I have restored the userbox to my page pending deletion review. I object to the term trolling, as it is inflammatory and inaccurate. I also submit that Doc has a history of conflict with me on issues related to my personal expression on my user page. Doc is utterly unfamiliar with my interests, and continues to fail to assume good faith on a regular basis. All of the edits which he cites were clearly not blockable offenses, with the possible exception of the last one, which was a redirect to the GWB article created from a redlink - hardly trolling.) --Dschor 14:24, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
Suggested remedy re Dschor and Paroxysm
I must say, this is rather disturbing. I crafted a template of an inoffensive nature, for my own use, and have been placed under an injunction on the assumption that I was trying to make a point. It seems more likely that the ArbComm is trying to make a point at my expense. I have requested undeletion of the template, as it was speedied out of process, and meets no criteria for deletion. As of now, I am self-imposing a two week hiatus from userbox creation in an effort to demonstrate my good faith. I do not feel that any further action is needed at this time, and will object strenuously to any other injunction or probation. I maintain that I have acted in good faith, and hope that the Arbitration Committee will be generous enough to do the same. --Dschor 00:20, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Timeline prepared for the Clerks' Office by Tony Sidaway
In slightly more than eight hours, a case that could have been settled amicably was subsumed into an already nearly complete arbitration case that had been ongoing. A very sad chapter in the history of WP.
